The Positive Engagement Index
The Positive Engagement Index ("PEI"), our employee survey instrument, measures the extent to which employees are actively engaged in helping the company achieve business results.
- Measures Performance in Areas that Matter. The PEI measures the factors that lead to improved business results. PEI statements are linked to important business outcomes that strongly impact the bottom line, e.g.: customer satisfaction, efficiency, productivity, innovation, and many others.
- Incorporates the Latest Advances in Survey Design. The PEI’s design and appearance combines the most recent advances in the fields of survey design, employee motivation, and behavioral science to avoid response bias.
- Practical Length. The core questionnaire has 46 statements in 10 dimensions, and is typically completed in 15 minutes.
Dimensions
The PEI consists of 10 dimensions as follows.
- I-0. Management & Resources. Measures the department manager's general managerial skill. Specifically: Resource Planning, Professionalism, Project Planning, Goal Setting, and Use of Documentation / Measurement.
- II-0. Leadership. Measures the department manager's leadership ability. Specifically: Anticipation of the Market, Insight during Feedback, Decision Making, Accountability, Promoting / Rewarding employees by Performance.
- III-0. Quality & Challenge. Measures dedication to quality. Specifically: Continuous Improvement, Variety of Work Assignments, and Constructive use of the Appraisal Process.
- IV-0. Communication. Measures the effectiveness of organizational communication. Specifically: The completeness, timeliness, helpfulness, and accuracy of communication, both within and between departments.
- V-0. Innovation & Flexibility. Measures innovation and change management. Specifically, Adaptability, Innovation, and Receptivity to Change.
- VI-0. Customer Orientation. Measures dedication to customer care. Specifically: Communication with Customers, Anticipation of Customer Needs, Uniqueness of Products & Services, and Complaint Resolution.
- VII-0. Ethics & Fairness. Measures ethics and fairness in the workplace. Specifically: Fairness in Delegation, Openness during Decision Making, and Adherence to Ethical Standards.
- VIII-0. Recognition & Compensation. Measures recognition and compensation. Specifically: The fairness, comparability, and value of compensation & recognition.
- IX-0. Teamwork & Respect. Measures teamwork and respect. Specifically: Mutual Respect, Inter-staff Support, Stress Management, and Conflict Resolution.
- X-0. Training & Development. Measures training and development. Specifically: Adequacy of Training, Career Development, and Emphasis on Continuous Learning.
Demographic Options
We offer flexible demographic options with our engagement surveys. Commonly used demographics include:
- Job Level
- Tenure (length of service)
- Age Group
- Workgroup / Job Function
Clients are free to add and remove demographics, and may customize the individual bands (e.g. job level and workgroup definitions) to accurately reflect their organizational structure.
Additional demographics used by our clients include Workplace (location) and Gender.
